When It Rains, It Pours….
Today Regan and I spent the day in a Portland Hospital visiting Michael. He was transferred down here last night. He had a lot of pain in his left eye on Monday and Tuesday Afternoon noticed that his eye was swelling a little. He called me while he was on his way home and asked me to make a Drs. Appt for him. He walked into the Drs. Office about 4:30 and they sent him directly to the ER for x-rays. The x-rays showed massive infection in all the sinus cavities surrounding the eye. They admitted him to the ER and started him on IV antibiotics and saline. After three bags of antibiotics and two bags of saline the swelling was still getting worse so the ER Dr. decided he needed transferred to a hospital that had an eye specialist on call day and night. They looked all over trying to find a place for him but no one close had an empty bed. So that’s how we ended up in a Portland hospital.
When Regan and I finally arrived (it took us about an hour longer than it should have because Map Quest gives HORRIBLE directions!) Michael was just seeing an eye Dr. He said the infection is starting to turn the corner and hopefully the swelling and pain will be leaving soon. I asked how long Michael will be here and he said through tomorrow and after that he wasn’t sure.
On a side note…it was exactly five years ago today that Regan was in the hospital and had her first heart surgery.
